  • Behind the tree

    Behind the tree

I learned all my woodworking skills from my father in a master-slave way. I had been following my father's woodworking since childhood and the attraction to wood as a material grew stronger and stronger. I've been in the creative field for most of my working life, but the inner need to make things out of concrete wood started to come through my body as I turned forty. I later found an explanation for this attraction. Namely, last autumn I was surprised to discover that my family...

BRITISH VOGUE has arrived in Finland!

BRITISH VOGUE has finally landed to Finland! Now you can get the January issue in Finland too! <3 There's the "House that Vogue built" column featuring the Levonpuu pedestal. How grateful and tingly this makes me feel! I'll reveal the background and building blocks that have allowed me to listen to my intuition, the idea for Levonpuu to come to life, and the conditions that have allowed Levonpuu to progress from idea to action. It has been influenced by so many people so...

  • Artek chair 68 -modification

    Artek chair 68 -modification

An old Artek chair with a broken backrest, nail polish on the seat and gum on the bottom, rescued from the school's furniture disposal pile. The chair needed and deserved a refurbishment. Thanks to an acquaintance for spotting the chair! The material of the chair is birch, birch plywood and the seat is white laminate. The chair needed gluing, sanding and painting. I wanted to do a curious, metallic artwork painting on the chair. A reborn look. Contact me if you want this beauty or...

  • Art

    Art

Now I think that is unprecedented! I had an idea that I've never seen before. The situation was that I was trying to figure out what colour to paint the chest of drawers in the kids' room. Suddenly I had the idea to paint in many colours and remove all rules and restrictions. In other words, to do an abstract painting directly on the front panels of the chest of drawers! We are used to seeing art paintings on murals, but why not paint a piece of art directly on the furniture! After all...

  • Don't sand out any of your imperfections

Don't sand out any of your imperfections

These old chair frames arrived for me to work on. The many layers of paint were a testament to the life they had seen, and the size, slightly smaller than today's standards, revealed a picture of the times. The chairs were to be sanded and painted in Tikkurila's "Tikkimetsä" shade. The intention was not to cover the debris with a masking paint, but to leave the authentic wood feel visible.

  • The secrets of the side table

The secrets of the side table

A solid marble slab for the table top, old barn boards to frame the table top and a Superuniikki stamp on the side. Such a combo is my latest addition to the "unique furniture" category. The idea came from the trendy use of marble. With a marble slab measuring 30×30 centimetres, I was looking for a finished small table of the right size to sit underneath. I found a table 10 centimetres bigger than this at a furniture store, leaving 5 centimetre spaces around the edges for the old board. The frame of the table was...

  • Like a wall rose - excellent!

Like a wall rose - excellent!

A wall rhino is usually a person who does not stand out much from the wall. This is a delicious idea in furniture design! So you make a piece of furniture in exactly the same shade as the wall. In this case, the piece of furniture just comes out of the wall as a shape, what a fun idea! With that idea in mind, I picked up an old bedside table from our waste recycling point. The table was lame and dirty, a yellowed, disgusting chest of drawers. Intact, however, and...

  • The Artek Sisters

    The Artek Sisters

Two old Artek chairs needed to be made white. They had a tightly riveted core in the seat. You know, the kind of waxy cover. The rivets had to be removed with a chisel and then examined to see if the wood underneath was in good condition. The seat of both chairs had been preserved quite nicely under the core. Otherwise there were scratches and dents in the frame parts of the chair, which had to be repaired...
