An incredible 17 square metres

Making a small home cosy? In a studio apartment of just an unimaginable 17 square metres, the necessary functions can be provided in a beautiful and practical way. Incredible, but true.

The resident had a desire to to renovate an apartment into a comfortable home. They wanted a Scandi industrial style, with broken natural colours. The copper kitchen tap had already been decided by the resident and the kitchen plans were already in the process of being drawn up. I got caught up with the rest of the overall design and colour scheme at the right time.

The colour scheme should follow this. Tikkurila Pro Grey 1930 would be used on the walls and the colour of the doors of the kitchen cabinets would be chosen accordingly.
The ingenious floor plan allows for the necessary functions. The loft has space for sleeping and storage. There is a kitchen under the loft.
For an apartment building built in 1912 in Kallio, Helsinki, I proposed a rock wall where green plants would "grow". The black metal and the beautiful wood would make a nice contrast.
For the loft, the pink and dark grey combination adds a softness to the dreamscape.
BEFORE - AFTER. The kitchen renovation made a big difference to the space.
A patinated copper tap is a handsome detail in a small kitchen.
BEFORE - AFTER. They wanted to replace the fixed wooden stairs with metal stairs that could be moved to the side. Recessed lighting in the kitchen ceiling brightens up the whole space.
The stairs are easy to pull aside for the day.
BEFORE - AFTER. The living room got a clearer order. Green plants still find their way to the rock wall.
BEFORE - AFTER. A sympathetic dining table now fits in front of the window, as the stairs can be moved out of the way.
On the wall, Tikkurila Pro Grey 1930, which was also used for the kitchen cabinet doors.
BEFORE - AFTER. The old cupboard doors were replaced with sliding doors and the fridge was disguised to be more discreet.
