In the deep shades of wallpapering

I think Finland is back home from holiday, it's time to look at the walls of your home.

I have wanted to learn wallpapering, so that I can at least wallpaper the walls of my own home myself. And now the opportunity to do so has opened up from a distance of seven metres. The entire white wall of the living room would get a green colour and pattern. I found this absolutely gorgeous Tropical fibre wallpaper on Photowall.fi.

Because I had not previously wallpapered, it made sense to get an experienced renovator to help. So my dad buzzed in again and we started the job. The wall to be wallpapered has to be clean and tidy, in my case the base surface was the easiest: a renovated item with a clean painted wall, no dents or curves. I had wiped the wall the night before and drawn a line the width of the bed with a pencil to mark it.

The essential steps of wallpapering:

A white wall is not my thing.

The first layer of wallpaper should get really straight. A cotton passport is a good help.

Put enough paste on the wall, there must be paste in every spot, otherwise there will be an air bubble in the wallpaper.

I found it most convenient to cut the top edge of the wallpaper to fit, instead of cutting it on the wall at the end. There goes your shoulders and your wits. Because I tested with the first two and this one and found that I could cut it sitting on the floor.
I left a few centimetres extra at the bottom and cut it to fit using a metal pivot only after fixing it to the wall. The coolest thing would be if you could be bothered to take the skirting boards off for wallpapering.

Roll the seams tight with a seam rolling tool.

I find it quite easy to align the fibre wallpaper with the pattern and if the millinch part doesn't fit, you can try to slide the wallpaper a little bit to the right place on the wall.

Remove the sockets from the wall where the wallpaper leaks - REMEMBER TO TURN OFF THE POWER for that time - then you'll have a clean wallpaper and just screw the socket back on. Just and just now I dare admit that my finger somehow hit an open socket and the neighbours heard it. It won't happen again.

The tropical forest atmosphere is now very much in evidence thanks to this wallpapered wall. Oh, I love it! What do you want?
